Best products for cleaning a dirty grill

For most people, barbecuing is just part of summer. Many people use their grills as much, if not more so, than their ovens during the summer time as a result of parties, get-togethers, and the chance to enjoy their grill while they still have the time.

The downside of grilling is cleaning the grill, which is a necessary part of barbecuing and owning a grill. Not cleaning the grill can result in bacteria, damage to the grill, and poor tasting food.

While cleaning the grill may not be fun, there are many products and tools available that make the process much easier and more efficient. The following are some of the best products for cleaning a dirty grill.

Wire brushA stainless steel wire brush is probably the main tool you will need for cleaning the grates of your grill. This will work to remove the dried and caked on food particles. The best time to clean your grill is after you grill, not before. When the food and charcoal particles are still warm, they will be easier to brush off. Once they are cooled, they harden to the grate and are much more difficult to use.

With a wire brush, you don't need anything fancy. As long as the brush is still and wire, it will work on your grill.

GrillflossThere is a product on the market called Grillfloss that is handy at getting hard-to-reach places that the wire brush can't reach, such as the bottom side of the grill grates. Grillfloss can wrap around each rod of the grill, thoroughly removing the food particles from all sides, not just the top.

This is designed to work on round grill grates, so if you have something else these won't be useful for you. Because grill rods vary in size from one grill to another, Grillfloss has a dual-sized cleaning head designed to be compatible with most types of grills. It will only work on grill rods that are perfectly round, since they are designed to "wrap around" the rods themselves.

Stainless steel wipesAnother product you can use on your grill are stainless steel wipes. Designed for the outside of your grill instead of the grates and the inside, these pre-moistened wipes are designed to quickly remove dirt and grease from your grill while polishing the stainless steel surfaces most grills are made out of. These are mostly useful on gas grills and can help keep them looking shiny and new. In addition, they are good at helping to prevent fingerprints.

Soap and waterPart of cleaning your grill should include a thorough cleaning at least once a year. This involves disconnecting the gas (if you have a gas grill) and taking various parts out so you can clean them with a bucket of soap and water. Clean off the barrier above the burners in your grill. Once everything is off the grill, clean it off completely with the soapy water. If the wire brush will damage the surface, use a cloth or wipes. Make sure to rinse it as well when you're done so the food won't taste like soap.

You don't have to cut down on your grilling just because you dread cleaning off your grill. The above are some of the best products for cleaning a dirty grill.
